HVAC FAQ — AC Repair, Heating Repair & Emergency Service Questions

Everything homeowners ask us most, answered by our technicians. Still stuck? Call (866) 652-0413 — we answer 24/7.

What areas do you serve?

We serve 11,275 cities across 10 states — California, Florida, Georgia, Illinois, Michigan, New York, North Carolina, Ohio, Pennsylvania and Texas. Find your city on our locations page.

Do you offer 24 hour AC repair and 24 hour heating repair?

Yes. Live dispatch runs 24/7, including nights, weekends and holidays, for emergency AC repair and emergency heating repair.

How quickly can someone come out?

Same-day service is available in most areas when you call early, and next-day is standard. No-cool and no-heat emergencies are prioritized.

How do you price repairs?

Flat-rate, in writing, after diagnosis and before work begins. The diagnostic fee is quoted on the phone before we dispatch.

Why is my AC not blowing cold air?

Most commonly a clogged filter, dirty condenser coil, failed capacitor, low refrigerant from a leak, or a frozen evaporator coil. See our full guide on AC not blowing cold air.

Why is my furnace not working?

Thermostat and battery issues, a dirty flame sensor, a failed hot surface igniter, a tripped high-limit switch from restricted airflow, or a blocked condensate trap on high-efficiency units.

What does short cycling mean?

The system starts and stops every few minutes. Causes include restricted airflow, a dirty flame sensor, an oversized furnace, bad thermostat placement, or a cracked heat exchanger.

Should I repair or replace my system?

If the equipment is under 10 years old and the repair is less than roughly 30% of replacement cost, repair. Older R-22 systems with major failures usually favor replacement.

How long does an AC last?

Typically 12–18 years with annual maintenance. Coastal salt air, heavy dust and neglected filters shorten that considerably.

How often should I change my air filter?

Every 1–3 months for 1-inch filters, or every 6–12 months for 4-inch media filters. Pets and construction dust mean more frequent changes.

Can you add refrigerant without fixing the leak?

We won't. Refrigerant doesn't get consumed — low charge means a leak, and venting refrigerant is both wasteful and illegal. We find and repair the leak.

Do you work on heat pumps and mini-splits?

Yes — heat pump repair, defrost boards, reversing valves, and ductless mini-split repair and installation for all major brands.

Are your technicians licensed and insured?

Yes, and background-checked. We carry liability and workers' compensation coverage.

Do you pull permits on installations?

Yes, where required. We also perform load calculations and register manufacturer warranties on your behalf.

Do you offer maintenance plans?

Yes — spring cooling and fall heating visits, priority emergency scheduling and repair discounts.

What brands do you service?

Carrier, Trane, American Standard, Lennox, Rheem, Ruud, Goodman, Amana, York, Bryant, Payne, Daikin, Mitsubishi, Fujitsu, LG and more.

Is a burning smell from my furnace normal?

A brief dust smell on the first heating cycle of the season is normal. Persistent burning, plastic or electrical smells mean shut it down and call immediately.

Why is water leaking around my indoor unit?

Usually a clogged condensate drain, a full drain pan, a failed condensate pump, or a frozen coil that has begun to thaw.

Can I get an AC tune-up and furnace tune-up together?

Yes — many customers book a spring cooling visit and a fall heating visit, or bundle them in a maintenance plan.

Do you offer financing?

Yes, approved financing is available on new AC, furnace and heat pump installations.
